VIDEO: Man calls for state of emergency on child abuse after Abia incident

Nigerian writer and founder of the Leave No One Behind Rural Care Initiative, Charles Ogbu, has called on the government to declare a state of emergency on child abuse and violence against children following an attack on a young girl in Abia State.Ogbu made the call in a Facebook post on Monday while reacting to a viral video that allegedly showed a woman assaulting a young girl and attempting to cut her throat with a knife.According to him, the incident occurred at IBB Estate. In the video, the girl, is seen crying, pleading for help and shielding her throat as the woman allegedly threatened her with a knife.Condemning the incident, Ogbu described it as an attempted murder and urged authorities to ensure those responsible face the full weight of the law.“I have said it again and again, our society needs to declare a state of emergency on child abuse and violence against children. And offenders deserve nothing but the harshest punishment possible. This is a blight on human civilization.“Happened today at IBB Estate, Umuahia. I have since forwarded the video to the state government and secured assurances of their prompt action. This is attempted murder!” he wrote.Related NewsPRP presidential aspirant urges FG to protect Nigerians, condemns xenophobic attacksDisability groups fault Lagos over poor access to public facilitiesSokoto gov unveils two kilometres road networkThe incident has sparked outrage on social media, with many Nigerians calling for a thorough investigation and justice for the child.Watch the video below:𝐕𝐈𝐃𝐄𝐎: 𝐌𝐚𝐧 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐄𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐀𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐀𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐛𝐢𝐚 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭Credit: Facebook | Charles Ogbu—Follow us for more breaking news and videospic.twitter.com/92NEITh9cL— Punch Newspapers (@MobilePunch)July 6, 2026 Ogbu made the call in a Facebook post on Monday while reacting to a viral video that allegedly showed a woman assaulting a young girl and attempting to cut her throat with a knife.According to him, the incident occurred at IBB Estate.
