SPE FUTO MARKS SMART IMPACT DAY WITH FOOD OUTREACH IN OWERRI.

Members of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), Society of Petroleum Engineers FUTO Student Chapter, today carried out a humanitarian outreach tagged Smart Impact Day – Feed a Child, distributing food items to children and underprivileged individuals along Douglas Road.

The outreach forms part of activities marking the 2026 Douglass Road Outreach, an initiative designed to extend kindness and practical support to vulnerable members of the community. During the exercise, volunteers shared rice as well as food ingredients with children and families in need.
The program was organized under the Smart Minds Community Initiative, with sponsorship support from Adams Prince Rich and Innovative Minds Community.

The outreach aligns with SPE’s mission of community engagement and social responsibility beyond the petroleum engineering profession.
Speaking during the event, representatives of the student chapter emphasized that the goal of the program was to put smiles on the faces of children and support less privileged individuals, demonstrating that young professionals can contribute positively to society.

The volunteers moved through different parts of Douglas Road in Owerri, interacting with children and distributing food packages. The gesture was met with excitement and appreciation from beneficiaries, many of whom expressed gratitude for the kindness shown by the students.
The initiative also aims to encourage students and young professionals to cultivate a culture of giving, empathy, and community service.
The Smart Impact Day Feed a Child outreach stands as another example of how students led organizations can drive meaningful social change while building stronger connections between academic communities and the wider society.

Further community engagement activities are expected from the SPE FUTO Student Chapter as part of its ongoing commitment to humanitarian service and youth development.
