Silva Admits Fulham Will Miss Iwobi, Bassey, Chukwueze During AFCON 2025

Fulham head coach Marco Silva has admitted that the club will feel the absence of Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey and Samuel Chukwueze during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The trio left the club for international duty following Fulham’s 3–2 victory over Burnley on Saturday and could be away for up to a month, depending on how far Nigeria progress in the tournament. Silva acknowledged the significance of the players to his squad but stressed that their absence was anticipated and presents an opportunity for other members of the team to rise to the occasion. “We are talking about three important players. I will not hide their importance, but you cannot change it. It was in the schedule and we knew it. Now is the time for others to step in, show their quality, and prove that we can trust them,” Silva said, speaking to the club’s official website. Nigeria are scheduled to begin their AFCON 2025 campaign against the Taifa Stars of Tanzania next Tuesday.
