Nigeria thrash Mozambique 4-0 to cruise into AFCON quarter-finals

Nigeria produced a commanding performance to defeat Mozambique 4-0 and secure a place in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, continuing their impressive run in the tournament. The Super Eagles took control early at the Fez Sports Complex, with Ademola Lookman opening the scoring in the 20th minute after powering into the box and firing past goalkeeper Ernan. Nigeria doubled their advantage five minutes later when Akor Adams burst down the flank and delivered a dangerous cross that Victor Osimhen diverted into the net. Nigeria maintained dominance for the remainder of the first half, restricting Mozambique to few chances and controlling possession with ease. Osimhen came close to adding another but headed wide, while Wilfred Ndidi and Alex Iwobi both tested the Mozambican defence from distance. The third goal arrived five minutes into the second half. Lookman drove down the left, recovered a blocked effort and cut the ball back for Osimhen, who volleyed home from close range to make it 3-0. Adams completed the rout in the 30th minute of the second half, finishing a swift counter-attack with a powerful strike into the top corner after being set up once again by Lookman. With the outcome effectively decided, Nigeria made several substitutions, easing off the tempo while retaining full control of the match. Mozambique struggled to respond despite multiple changes, failing to seriously threaten Stanley Nwabali’s goal. The emphatic victory confirms Nigeria’s status as one of the tournament favourites and sends them confidently into the last eight, where they will face tougher opposition as the knockout stages intensify.
