Napoli President De Laurentiis to Stand Trial Over Alleged False Accounting in Osimhen Transfer

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has been ordered to stand trial over allegations of false accounting linked to the transfer of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen from Lille. According to the Rome Prosecutor’s Office, Napoli allegedly inflated the valuation of several players included in the Osimhen deal in order to generate artificial capital gains and strengthen the club’s financial statements. The indictment also names Napoli CEO Andrea Chiavelli and the club itself. A preliminary hearing judge in Rome has scheduled the first court session for December 2, 2026. Investigation Covers 2019–2021 Financial Dealings The investigation focuses on the club’s financial operations between 2019 and 2021, particularly the accounting practices used in the transfers of Osimhen and Greek defender Kostas Manolas. Prosecutors believe Napoli recorded unjustifiably high values for several youth players exchanged as part of the Osimhen deal, resulting in what they describe as improper capital gains. No Sporting Sanctions Pending Despite the ongoing criminal case, Napoli does not currently face any sporting sanctions. Italy’s Federal Prosecutor had previously closed the related FIGC inquiry, stating that no new evidence had emerged that would justify reopening disciplinary proceedings. Wiretap Revelations Further details from the investigation include wiretaps collected by the Guardia di Finanza, in which Napoli officials allegedly advised one another to avoid leaving written traces during negotiations. In one intercepted message, an official reportedly warned: “You must not write anything… leave no trace in emails.”
