Kwara reconciliation panel should include youths, says APC chieftain

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Kwara State and senatorial aspirant for Kwara South, Sola Ajimati, has called on the leadership of the party to include youth representatives in the newly inaugurated Kwara APC Reconciliation Committee.Ajimati, who is also President of the Youth Arise for Leadership Initiative and Convener of the It’s Youth O’Clock Movement, made the appeal in a statement released on Thursday. He commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the Kwara APC Chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, for setting up the committee, describing the move as a timely step towards strengthening party unity and repositioning the APC ahead of future elections.According to him, the committee, chaired by retired Col. Abdulwahab Ademola Lawal, with members including Dr Oluwatoyin Opawoye, Musa Yeketi and ACG Ahmed Abbas, reflects the party’s commitment to reconciliation following the recently concluded primary elections.Ajimati, however, argued that the committee would be more effective if it included credible youth representatives.“While the committee represents experience, wisdom and gender inclusion, it presently lacks the representation of credible and widely respected youth leaders or young professionals,” he said.He noted that young people account for more than 65 per cent of Kwara’s active voting population and play a critical role in grassroots mobilisation, electioneering and digital engagement.“Youth inclusion is no longer optional; it is a political necessity,” he stated.Related NewsKwara denies owing workers May, June salariesUNIUYO don seeks review of leadership recruitment processNo aggrieved aspirant would be left behind, Oyo APC chieftains assure membersThe APC chieftain appealed to the governor and the party leadership to appoint one or two youth representatives with proven integrity and broad acceptance across the state.“Such a decision will further inspire confidence, broaden participation and reinforce the message that every generation has a place in building the future of our party,” he added.Ajimati also urged the reconciliation committee to adopt an inclusive consultation process involving governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives and House of Assembly aspirants, as well as party elders, women leaders, youth groups, professionals and grassroots executives.According to him, genuine reconciliation can only be achieved when all stakeholders are given the opportunity to air their views. He further called on aspirants and their supporters to embrace peace and unity throughout the reconciliation process.“A transparent, inclusive and credible reconciliation effort will strengthen our collective resolve and position the APC for greater victories in 2027,” he said.Ajimati maintained that including young people in the reconciliation process would strengthen party unity and improve the APC’s electoral prospects.“The future of Kwara APC will be stronger when every generation is represented,” he added.
