IRAN THREATENS TO SHUT DOWN STRAIT OF HORMUZ IF US STRIKES POWER PLANTS.

Iran has issued a stark warning that it will fully shut down the Strait of Hormuz and maintain the closure until any damaged facilities are restored if the United States carries out threats to attack its power plants or other energy infrastructure.

This response follows US President Donald Trump's Saturday ultimatum, in which he demanded that Iran immediately and unconditionally reopen the vital waterway within 48 hours, or face US strikes that would destroy key Iranian power facilities, beginning with the largest.

Iranian military officials, including from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, described any such US action as crossing a red line, vowing not only to block the strait entirely but also to target American and Israeli-affiliated energy assets, oil installations, and related critical sites throughout the Middle East in retaliation. Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf emphasized that these counterstrikes could cause lasting, irreversible harm to regional infrastructure, driving oil prices higher for an extended period.

The exchange highlights rising tensions in the four-week-old conflict, where control over the Strait of Hormuz has already disrupted global shipping and spiked energy costs in parts of the world.
