The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Prof. (Mrs.) Nnenna Oti, has announced the immediate repair of the Obinze-FUTO Gate Road and the upcoming visit of Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, to the university.
In a message to students, Prof. Oti stated that the Imo State Governor, His Excellency Sen. Hope Uzodinma, has directed the immediate repair of the Obinze-FUTO Gate Road, assuring that the work will be completed before Saturday, April 25, 2026. She also invited the university community to receive Dr. Aliko Dangote, who will deliver the institution’s 37th Public Lecture on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 12 noon at the Prof. C.O.E. Onwuliri Conference Hall. The lecture is themed “A Dialogue with Aliko Dangote on Enterprise, Leadership and Service to Humanity”. This marks the first time the Africa’s richest man will deliver such a high-profile lecture at FUTO. The event will be hosted under the academic chairmanship of Vice Chancellor Prof. Nnenna N. Oti.Prof. The Vice Chancellor described the visit as a “historic moment” for the university and urged students and staff to turn out in large numbers, stating: “This is an opportunity of a lifetime to align your destiny for super greatness. Come one, come all, and make it a huge success”
In preparation for the event, the FUTO Students’ Union Government (SUG) ably led by His Excellency High Comr. Christopher Chukwuebuka has mobilised support for a massive solidarity march expected to involve over 10,000 students. The march will start from the front gate and converge at the Senate Building.The road repair directive by Governor Uzodinma has been welcomed by the university community as it will improve access ahead of the high-profile visit.Dr. Aliko Dangote is expected to share insights on entrepreneurship, leadership, and national development during the lecture.
In an interview with the SUG President, the president stated that the visit of Africa's Richest man is not a political movement and students and the entire FUTO community should not come to the lecture with expectations of giveaways from the CEO of the Dangote group.
Next Media was also made to understand that the palliative for the 10,000 march is fully sponsored by the FUTO SUG. Students are expected to take hold of this opportunity to learn from Africa's Richest man.
