By Joan Ugochukwu Nigerian international Kelechi Iheanacho is reportedly eager to extend his stay at Scottish champions Celtic, with the striker prioritising a return to the club despite uncertainty surrounding his future. Iheanacho’s current contract is set to expire on June 30, while the option for an automatic extension also lapses, leaving the 29-year-old free to consider offers from clubs across Europe. According to reports, the Super Eagles forward is keen to remain at Celtic Park for at least another season if the club presents him with a new contract. The former Manchester City and Leicester City striker enjoyed a productive spell in Glasgow, although injuries restricted his appearances during the campaign. He made just four Scottish Premiership starts but still managed to score five league goals. Among his most memorable contributions were late winning goals against Hibernian and Motherwell after the league split, while he also found the back of the net in Celtic’s Scottish Cup final victory over Dunfermline. Despite his impact when fit, concerns over his long-term injury record are believed to have delayed the club’s decision on offering him fresh terms. With his contract running out, Iheanacho has attracted interest from several clubs across Europe, particularly in Turkey, where a number of Super Lig sides are reportedly monitoring his situation. Reports indicate that some Turkish clubs have already tabled offers for the Nigerian forward as they seek to secure his signature on a free transfer. However, Iheanacho is said to be giving priority to staying at Celtic, where he hopes to continue his career if the Scottish champions decide to formalise a new contract offer in the coming days. The striker, who previously starred for Manchester City and Leicester City in the English Premier League, now faces a crucial decision over the next phase of his career as interest in his services continues to grow.
