Accra, Ghana — The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria have secured a place in the semi-finals of the 2025 WAFU B U-17 Championship following a convincing 4-1 victory over Benin Republic on Wednesday. Man of the Match, George Agha, stole the spotlight with a superb hat-trick, while David Edeh added his name to the scoresheet to seal the win for the five-time world champions. Benin Republic’s Jeremy Zannou netted their lone consolation goal. The result means Benin have crashed out of the tournament after suffering consecutive defeats, having earlier lost their opening game to Burkina Faso. With only three teams in Group B, Nigeria and Burkina Faso now sit level on three points each. However, the Eaglets lead the standings on superior goal difference, thanks to their emphatic victory over Benin. Head coach Manu Garba praised his boys for their determination and attacking display but urged them to stay focused ahead of the crunch group finale. “It was a good performance, and I am happy for the players, especially George Agha. But we must not relax. Burkina Faso is a strong side, and we need to approach that match with even more seriousness,” Garba said after the match. Nigeria only need a point from their final group game against Burkina Faso on Saturday to seal top spot and secure a more favourable draw for the semi-finals. The Golden Eaglets, renowned for their pedigree at youth tournaments, are now aiming to extend their dominance in the WAFU B Championship as they chase qualification for the 2025 CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.
