Following the recent complaints of FUTO students regarding the harrowing process of the ongoing CBT examinations, the Students Union Government (SUG) of the Federal University Of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) has intervened and taken necessary steps to bringing an end to the struggles students face during the CBT examination process.
After consultation by the SUG, the FUTO ICT director has assured Nigerian students that they will experience a more seamless examination process as a revised timetable is being constructed to manage the large number of exam candidates. Under this new arrangement, courses with a large number of candidates will be spread across two days to remedy the congestion previously witnessed at the exam center.
The SUG has also contacted the vice chancellor, Professor Mrs Nnenna Oti, who has reportedly assured Nigerian students that actions will be taken to ensure that the comfort and dignity of students are being prioritised while writing their exams.
While students lament over assaults witnessed during exams, the SUG has condemned and frowned at these actions, emphasizing that no one has the prerogative to lay a hand on Nigerian students and have also laid a formal complaint to the FUTO chief security officer (CSO) to ensure that students are being treated with respect while writing their exams. In a recent statement by the SUG president on his WhatsApp status, H.E Comr. Christopher Chukwuebuka has reiterated the SUG's commitment to ensuring that these incidents do not reoccur.
While we applaud the SUG for these significant moves, we still call on them to work towards providing shelter for students waiting to be called into the exam hall to avoid compromising their health and putting them in conditions where their mental health is being jeopardized in the process.
