FUTO SUG GIVES UNREGISTERED MEDIA 24 HOURS TO REGISTER UNDER FSSJ OR FACE CONSEQUENCES.

The Students’ Union Government of the Federal University of Technology Owerri has issued a final directive to all unregistered media houses, blogs, news outlets and information channels operating within the university community.

In an official notice released today and signed by the SUG Public Relations Officer/Director of Information, High Comr. Nduka Victory Oluchukwu, the union stated that any media platform disseminating information without proper registration and official recognition from the FUTO Students’ Society of Journalists (FSSJ) is in direct violation of student media regulatory standards. This memo is coming few hours after the FSSJ President issued an ultimatum to unregistered media channels operating on the FUTO campus without licence.

The directive, issued in collaboration with the FSSJ and described as final and non-negotiable, gives all unregistered entities until tomorrow, March 4, 2026, to present themselves for identification, screening, documentation and registration under the FSSJ.

According to the FUTO SUG PRO, Failure to comply within the 24-hour window will result in immediate enforcement actions, including suspension of operations, public disassociation, blacklisting, and referral for disciplinary measures in line with university and student union regulations.

The SUG PRO stated that the measure is intended to safeguard responsible journalism, prevent misinformation, and maintain the integrity and order of the university community.

All concerned parties are advised to act immediately by contacting the Office of the Public Relations Officer or the President of the FUTO Students’ Society of Journalists.
