FUTO JOURNALISTS' BODY ISSUES ULTIMATUM TO UNREGISTERED MEDIA HOUSES, THREATENS SANCTIONS.

The FUTO Students’ Society of Journalists (FSSJ), the official regulatory body for student journalists and media houses on FUTO campus, has issued a final notice to all unregistered media outfits operating within the university.

In a strongly worded memorandum dated March 2, 2026, signed by FSSJ President Journ. Comr. Ezechile Wisdom C., the association declared “Operation Media Sanitize” and gave unregistered media houses until Wednesday, March 4, 2026 to regularize their status or face serious consequences.

FSSJ expressed deep concern over the growing number of unregistered, unlicensed, and in some cases outright fake media operations on campus. Many of these groups have created WhatsApp channels and other informal platforms, where they frequently disseminate false or misleading information. Such activities, according to the association, have caused significant harm by spreading misinformation, damaging reputations, and undermining trust in credible campus journalism.

The notice emphasized that registration with the FSSJ is now mandatory for any media house seeking recognition, legitimacy to operate, and the right to participate in journalistic activities within FUTO. Failure to comply by the stated deadline will result in disciplinary actions, including suspension of operations and complete withdrawal of recognition within the university environment and a possible arrest.

The FSSJ reiterated its commitment to upholding professionalism, accountability, and ethical standards in campus journalism, in line with its constitution and affiliation with the Nigeria Union of Campus Journalists (NUCJ).

Media operators are strongly encouraged to reach out immediately for registration procedures. Contact details provided include:
