Ex-Internationals Okpara, Udeze to Mentor Quarterfinalists at Spires Naija Street Soccer Tournament

Former Super Eagles stars Godwin Okpara and Ifeanyi Udeze have been named mentors for the quarterfinalists of the ongoing Spires 5-Aside Naija Street Soccer Tournament. The ex-internationals will be at the Stables Sports Center, Surulere, Lagos, on November 8 and 9 for mentorship sessions with the players ahead of their respective matches. Okpara, a former Nigerian international defender, was part of the Super Eagles squad to the 1998 FIFA World Cup, the 2000 Africa Cup of Nations, and the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. Udeze, who played as a left-back, made 35 appearances for Nigeria between 2000 and 2005, featuring at the 2002 and 2004 Africa Cup of Nations. He was also part of the Super Eagles squad to the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Korea and Japan. According to the organisers, the mentorship sessions will focus on football lessons, personal discipline, and the lifestyle expected of aspiring professional footballers, aimed at inspiring the next generation of players emerging from grassroots football. The quarterfinal stage of the competition will be decided this weekend, with eight teams battling for places in the semifinals. On Saturday, New Generation FC will take on Greater Tomorrow FA, while Chekas United face Wasola FC. The action continues on Sunday, with defending champions White Tigers FC clashing with All Saints FC, and Papa SA going head-to-head against Blood and Sand FC. The 2025 Spires 5-Aside Naija Street Soccer Tournament, which kicked off on Sunday, October 26, will culminate in a grand finale on Saturday, November 15, where the champions will be crowned.
