Ebonyi needs quality governance, not rotation sentiment — PDP group

A Peoples Democratic Party support group in Ebonyi State, the Anyi Ga’ Emeya Movement, has said Ebonyians are more interested in quality and purposeful leadership than in rotational sentiment being promoted by some political actors. The group argued that the governorship aspiration of the PDP candidate for the February 6, 2027, election, Dr Ifeanyichukwuma Odii, is focused on improving governance and the living standards of residents. The group’s spokesman, Moses Idika, said this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abakaliki. The statement read, “The attention of the Anyi Ga’ Emeya Movement has been drawn to a statement credited to the Ebonyi State Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Mr Ikeuwa Omebe, in which he sought to defend the Ebonyi State Government.“We acknowledge the fact that Ebonyi State was created from the amalgamation of the Afikpo bloc and the Abakaliki bloc, from the old Abia and Enugu states, respectively.“We also note with concern the attempt to suggest that power rotation can only be viewed through the prism of senatorial districts.”The group said the principle of power rotation in Nigeria evolved from the country’s historical structure and has been adapted at different levels of government over time.Related NewsEdo electoral commission recruits 10,000 ad hoc staff for LG pollCOAS passes out 3,000 Army recruits in EbonyiEbonyi denies rift between Nwifuru, Wike, blames PDPIt added, “In Ebonyi State today, the people desire good governance, progress, prosperity and a state everyone can be proud of.“The emergence of Chief Ifeanyichukwuma Odii as the PDP governorship candidate for 2027 is not based on sentiment or a ‘turn-by-turn’ mentality, but on the desire to provide direction and accelerate development in the state.”The group also challenged the Ebonyi State Government to present verifiable achievements recorded since the current administration assumed office in 2023.It said, “As a democracy, we call on Mr Omebe and the administration of Governor Francis Nwifuru to base their re-election campaign on substance and measurable achievements rather than sentiment.“We challenge the commissioner to present 10 achievements of the current government that should persuade Ebonyians to renew their mandate in 2027.”The statement further noted that since 1999, Ebonyi politics has remained competitive, with different political parties presenting candidates irrespective of their zones of origin.
