•Ex-minister, Nnaji, Nnamani declared winners The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary election in Enugu State has ended in controversy following the declaration of two aspirants as winners. On Monday, former minister of science and technology, Uche Nnaji, had been declared as the flagbearer of the party for next year’s election after he reportedly polled 7,424 votes to defeat Mr. Samson Nnamani, who secured 600 votes in the governorship primary conducted by the chairman of the state gubernatorial committee, Hon. Austin Nwachukwu, in Enugu. And, only yesterday, Chief Sampson Nnamani was announced as winner of Enugu PDP governorship primary with 7,542 votes as against Nnaji, who polled 121 votes. The returning officer for the state PDP governorship primaries, High Chief Wisdom Okoye, who declared Nnamani as the winner, stated that the primary election was conducted under a peaceful atmosphere, orderliness, and in strict compliance with the guidelines of the PDP as directed by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC). The returning officer said a total number of 7,663 delegates were accredited for the exercise, which was conducted across the 17 local governments of Enugu State. He declared: “Distinguished party members, stakeholders, delegates, elders, members of the press and the good people of Enugu State, my name is High Chief Wisdom Okoye. On behalf of the electoral panel constituted by the National Working Committee of the PDP, I hereby present the outcome of the PDP governorship primaries election conducted across the 17 local Government Areas of Enugu State on Sunday. “It was a transparent exercise conducted in line with our constitution and the guidelines of our great party. The delegates exercised their democratic rights in an atmosphere of peace and orderliness. “Following the collations and verifications of results across the local governments, there was a total number of accredited votes of 7,663. “Chief Sampson Chukwu Nnamani scored a total of 7542 votes, while Chief Uche Godfrey Nnaji scored 121 votes. “Accordingly, having scored the highest number of the valid votes cast, Chief Sampson Chukwu Nnamani is, hereby, declared the winner of the PDP governorship primaries election and returned as the duly elected candidate of the PDP for the forthcoming governorship elections in Enugu State .” In his acceptance speech, Chief Nnamani commended the delegates for conducting themselves in a peaceful manner and making their choice through a peaceful, democratic exercise. He also commended the PDP National Working Committee and the state chapter of the party for a peaceful exercise and extended an olive branch to Mr Nnaji to join him in building a strong PDP that will deliver in the election. “I also thank my opponent, Uche Nnaji. You are a good man, and I invite you to come over, so that, together, we can achieve victory in 2027.”
