Bayer Leverkusen forward Victor Boniface has opened up about his experience with the Super Eagles, admitting that the goals have not come as easily as expected but maintaining that his commitment to the national team remains steadfast. Speaking with journalist, the 24-year-old striker reflected on his journey with the Nigerian national team, describing it as both humbling and fulfilling despite the challenges. Boniface acknowledged the mixed reactions from fans over his performances but said wearing the green and white jersey has always been his greatest dream. “I have been unlucky with the national team in terms of scoring goals, even though there were a couple of games where I was not good,” he said. “My biggest dream as a football player was to represent my country, and I achieved this, and I am grateful for it. Because it has not worked well for me with the national team does not mean I am a bad player.” He emphasized that his struggles in front of goal do not define him as a footballer nor diminish the pride he feels whenever he represents Nigeria. Boniface, who made his competitive debut for the Super Eagles in 2023, said he remains motivated to give his best in future matches, adding that the experience has helped him mature both mentally and professionally. Speaking on his club career and the transfer window that saw him linked with Italian giants AC Milan, the striker said he had no regrets about how things turned out. “When the Milan deal didn’t go through, I was just relaxing with my friends. Things like that happen in football all the time,” Boniface said. “I love Germany. I really do.” The Leverkusen star, who missed part of last season due to injury, dismissed suggestions that his campaign was disappointing. “I missed a lot of games but still scored eight goals. I don’t understand how that became a bad season,” he added. Boniface said his journey has been shaped by resilience and gratitude, noting that he has overcome injuries that could have ended his career. “I came from humble beginnings. I’ve faced tough injuries that could have ended my career, so every day I’m thankful to God. Being here is already a blessing,” he said. The forward also addressed criticism surrounding his social media activities, a recurring topic among fans and commentators, saying it does not distract him from his goals on the pitch.
