Former two-time world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has issued his first public statement following a car crash in Nigeria that left him injured and claimed the lives of two close friends and members of his team. Joshua was involved in the accident on Monday near Lagos when the vehicle he was travelling in collided with a stationary truck. Two occupants of the car, Sina Ghami, his strength and conditioning coach, and Latif Ayodele, popularly known as Latz and one of his trainers, died from injuries sustained in the crash. The boxer was taken to hospital after the incident and was discharged on Wednesday. He has since returned to the United Kingdom ahead of the funerals of the deceased. He accompanied the post with the caption, “My Brother’s Keeper,” marking his first public reaction since the tragedy. Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command confirmed on Friday that the driver of the vehicle, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, has been charged in connection with the crash. Kayode was arraigned at the Sagamu Magistrates’ Court. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are ongoing.
