Hosts Morocco secured a place in the semi-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a commanding 2-0 victory over Cameroon in Rabat on Friday night. Goals in each half from Brahim Diaz and Ismael Saibari proved decisive as Walid Regragui’s side delivered a dominant performance, keeping the Indomitable Lions at bay throughout an often ill-tempered contest. Morocco took the lead in the 26th minute when Diaz reacted quickest to a corner kick. Ayoub El Kaabi flicked the ball on at the near post, allowing Diaz to nudge it into the net from close range with his thigh for his fifth goal of the tournament. The Atlas Lions doubled their advantage in the second half through Saibari, who capitalised on a set-piece situation. The midfielder fired a low left-footed drive into the net after collecting a loose ball following a free-kick, sealing the win for the hosts. The victory sees Morocco extend their unbeaten run to 25 matches and move into the last four of the competition for the first time since 2004, when they finished as runners-up to Tunisia. The result also leaves the hosts just two wins away from lifting their first AFCON title since 1976. Morocco will return to the same venue on Wednesday at 20:00 GMT, where they will face the winners of Saturday’s quarter-final clash between Algeria and Nigeria, as they continue their quest for continental glory on home soil.
